Michael Mainiero first caught the flying bug when he was in fifth grade. It soon grew into a full-blown passion, and is rapidly evolving into a full career. After first taking the controls of a Bellanca Viking in 2010 (thanks to EAA’s Young Eagles program), he began slowly building up experience in a wide range of aircraft. Based out of the San Carlos Airport (KSQL), Michael is an instrument rated, multi-engine commercial pilot with 1750 hours. Since the fall of 2012, he has been an active volunteer with the Patriots Jet Team and holds type ratings in the Aero Vodochody L-39, Rockwell Sabreliner and Cessna Citation 525 (SIC). He is a current member member of EAA, and AOPA as well.
Michael’s first-hand training as an aerobatic and formation pilot has proved beneficial in his air to air formation photography work. Due to his experience on both sides of the lens, he personally has experienced working with and flying a diverse set of aircraft and what limitations each has with air to air photography. Without saying, safety is of the upmost importance in this operating environment, and few photographers have quite the extensive hands-on experience. Along with the access to the industry’s best formation pilots, you can be assured to receive the highest quality service with numerous magazine quality images of your aircraft!
